Music

I was born into a family of musicians - my granduncles led a band that went by "Gypsy" back in the 70s and 80s, and the rest of my family were heavily involved in Singapore's entertainment industry in various ways as performers, educators, and behind the scenes crew. As for myself, my journey started when I picked up the ukelele at 10 - that soon shifted to guitar when I turned 12, and I got heavily interested in basic production as I entered Secondary School and learnt about Garageband. Since then, I've honed my skills making covers and originals online, and even joined a leading Arts CCA in Temasek Polytechnic called "Music Vox", as a Vocalist and Songwriter (though I dabble in the other sections too). I've performed for a myriad of performances since then, and even shared some tracks on streaming platforms - all of which couldn't have been done without the nurturance and guidance of the many talented people I've encountered. As a former Vice-President, I've since graduated as a CCA Scholar, moving on to continue in my passions in hopes of creating art that inspires the next young artist.

"Full Bloom" by Music Vox

In an album put together by Music Vox, features 3 songs Masha wrote and featured on as a Vocalist and Instrumentalist (Guitar & Bass). "Spread The Light" being a collaborative piece of writing for National Day, and "Last Words" & "10 Steps" being personal songs that she wrote and composed for. As of February 2023, her songs in the album have 7k streams collectively on Spotify alone, and she has since then performed them multiple times live for shows.

Masha Nyanna online everywhere!

Uploading onto social media is where Masha first did a deep dive into her musical exploration through covers and original music.

From YouTube, to Instagram, and more recently TikTok, Masha has amassed a small following from her covers with vocal stacks and ever-improving motion visuals.

LIVE

Tapestry MELODY: Memory Vortex

As a part of the "Tapestry: MELODY Music Festival" put together by my committee, with events by the music arts groups in my school - we put together the "Memory Vortex" Music Vox Annual Concert, a LIVE concert to 200+ participants with performances by current member and alumni bands.

I performed as a Vocalist and Bassist in the opening band "Caffeine Crew", in "Lotus" a band that collaborated with TP Chinese Orchestra on the song "Legends Never Die", as well as "We're Being Watched" in a special teaser of an unreleased original song written by them.

Being in charge of the crew and performing in 3 bands was no easy feat, however the support of my committee made the journey easier.

National Day Concert 2022

Carrying on from the online endeavours in 2021, Music Vox was asked to close TP's National Day Concert in 2022 with our original song "Spread The Light". I performed as a vocalist, arranging vocals and ideating on choreo for the band.

Temasek Spectacular 2022

As part of the Freshmen Orientation activities in 2022, the Temasek Arts Centre put together performances for a week straight, each featuring different arts groups.

Music Vox performed on multiple days, with my original song "10 Steps", as well as in a collaboration with Chinese Orchestra in "Colours Of The Wind" in the VVIP show.

MOE Media Appreciation Dinner

In a private dinner reception, Music Vox was invited to perform for the MOE Media Appreciation Dinner, with Minister for Education Mr Chan Chun Sing in attendance.

It was an honour and privilege to perform classic hits like "Don't Stop Believin", "Dancing Queen" and even our original song "Spread The Light" as a bassist and vocalist.

TP Open House 2023

On Day 2 of TP's Open House 2023, I performed in 2 lineups from morning till night, with a setlist of 9 songs total to remember as a vocalist.

In a duet with President, Caitlyn Chew, we performed acoustic versions of "The 30th", by Billie Eilish, "Valentine" by Laufey and "Adore" by Phum Viphurit in smaller areas of the school.

In a full band called Radiant, I performed as a vocalist having 2 different sets - one with "10 Steps" by myself, "Every Summertime" by NIKI, and "Coloring Outside The Lines" by MisterWives, and another set with "Enchanted" by Taylor Swift, "Back Home To You" by Music Vox, and "Still Into You" by Paramore.

As a part of the hyped up Night Festival, we also performed an encore of "Coloring Outside The Lines", which was well-received by public.

Marine Parade National Day Dinner 2019

To enhance the town's community spirit, back in the day my family was assigned the task to write and compose an original song for the Singapore town of "Marine Parade" in which my family members then mostly resided.

In 2019, the town shifted into a new season with a new tune, and so to honour the original "Marine Parade Song", my family was invited to perform it for the last time at the Marine Parade National Dinner that year, with Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong in attendance. As the track was recorded in the 80s, my mom asked me to recreate the track so that the music would be much cleaner and proper for a performance in 2019. You can listen to it below!

DREAMS XII

In the first live performance by TP after the pandemic, DREAMS XII was a concert put together by the arts groups of Temasek Poly.

Music Vox performed its 3 title songs from the album "Full Bloom" - 2 of which were by myself, "10 Steps" and "Last Words". Specially arranged for the live setting, these renditions of my songs featured special moments such as a call-and-answer moment in the bridge of "10 Steps" with vocals and guitar, as well as a longer bridge and guitar solo for "Last Words".

I also had the honour of having a short interview afterwards, helping to promote the CCA and our then upcoming album.

SPCA 75th Anniversary Pawty

As part of an anniversary event by SPCA, Music Vox and TP Band were invited to perform.

I performed as a vocalist in the band Mellow, with acoustic renditions of "Until I Found You" by Stephen Sanchez and Em Beihold, "Back Home To You" by Music Vox, and a special mashup of "Enchanted" by Taylor Swift" and "Deja Vu" by Olivia Rodrigo. The performances were wonderful and Music Vox was invited once again in May 2023 to perform again.

Walk For Rice

In collaboration with the Community Service Club, Music Vox organised 4 days of performance lineups each evening to mark the end of Walk For Rice each day.

I performed as a vocalist in a duet with Alumni Guitarist Dhruv Patel, and as a bassist in a band with the MV Committee and Instructors.

Learning the lyrics for 3 songs, and the chords for another 3 were not easy, but we pulled through with a very well-received crowd.

TP Regatta x Samudra 2023

For the TP Freshmen Orientation PRogramme in 2023, I was a part of the Regatta x Samudra - a special dragon boat race event between the schools that is integral to the TP Freshie experience, this year with the addition of live performances by the Arts Groups.

We were initially planned to sing 3 songs for the planned Samudra acts, however, due to wet weather we had to replace one of the larger groups' act with a performance of 3 additional songs, and thereafter was asked to perform 4 more songs in between as fillers.

It was a daunting task to perform 10 songs total, 7 unprepared for - but as a senior in the performing vocalists, I quickly planned arrangements and audience interaction moments with the vocalists right before we went on. This proved successful when received high praise from the higher-ups.

Backstage Pass with Music & Drama Company on Power98 Love Songs

In a once in a lifetime opportunity, Music Vox was invited on "The Backstage Pass" - a behind the scenes interview cameo series with Music & Drama Company, as well as appear live on Power98 Love Songs.

It was a very special moment as the radio segment and video episode aired on my birthday - especially a proud moment as the song "Spread The Light" which I co-wrote and performed on, was aired on national radio.
